Harshal Joshi

I am an aerospace engineer and systems thinker interested in engineering, science, design, learning systems, and creative problem-solving. This website is a curated introduction to my work, interests, and the things I am currently exploring and building.

Educational Background

I completed my B.Tech in Aerospace Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (2019), where I built a strong foundation in aerodynamics, systems, and engineering fundamentals. I then pursued an M.S. (Research) in Aerospace Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (2023), specializing in Flight Mechanics and Controls. My thesis focused on preliminary aircraft design for high-altitude long-endurance (HALE) missions, along with the development of supporting design software tools. My academic work includes aircraft design, flight testing, rotorcraft dynamics, and control systems, along with an exposure to design thinking through the Understanding Design course at IDC, IIT Bombay.

Interests

I am drawn to engineering — especially aerospace — but more broadly to building and understanding how things work as systems, whether machines, people, or ideas. I like making things, from mechanisms to designs, and I enjoy teaching because it forces clarity of thought. My curiosity moves across science, history, human behavior, and creative work like art and design, often guided by a first-principles approach to question, simplify, and improve what exists. I don’t see disciplines as separate boxes — I prefer moving across them, while staying grounded in the craft of engineering and the pursuit of building things well.

Currently Doing

I am currently working on ideas and tools related to engineering learning, knowledge systems, personal software, and long-term educational infrastructure. I also write essays and build small tools that may be useful to the wider engineering community.
